Students’ Capacity Building:

Objective:  To improve students’ performance and to prepare students for their future careers.

The first core objective of the faculties at Kabul University is to build students’ capacity and to ensure that all students graduate with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in workforce. It is considered one of the most important issues in this strategic plan because capacity building of the learners causes further success of the university. In addition, it is important as it encourages the leadership and evaluate students’ abilities and makes students perform in complex environments.

To achieve this goal, different strategies and activities have been done and will be applied in the future. The activities include:

  • Research collaborations
  • Problem-based collaboration
  • Improving access to information
  • Student exchange programs
  • Service learning programs

Research Collaborations:

Research is one of the most important factors in all academic settings that should be improved and students should learn how to find solutions for different issues by conducting different types of research. Collaborative research programs at Kabul University will help the learners work collaboratively to share their ideas, thoughts and skills.

The term “Research Collaboration” in academic research is mainly referred to an equal partnership between two academic faculties or members of two research groups in different departments of the same institution to work together in order to build their research capacity. The goal is to increase the culture of collaboration among the learners and to learn about the current research techniques.

Applying this will be started from 1398 (2019) in all faculties at Kabul University.

Problem-based collaboration:

In order to build students’ capacities, it is something essential to know what to do to better help the learners. One of the best ways that help students’ build their capacities is consideration and applying problem-based collaboration strategies. This involves a change in the role of the lecturer from presenting information to students to facilitating and guiding learning.

Problem-based collaboration closely relates with teachers’ teaching styles and with the curriculum; it also needs a specific process to be followed. Since the curriculum consists of problems that originates from the learner achievement of critical knowledge, problem solving proficiency, self-directed learning strategies and team participation skills, the process reproduces the commonly used problem-based collaboration strategies to meet the challenges and are encountered in life and career.

The strategies related to problem-based collaboration are going to be applied in 1398 (2019) in all faculties at Kabul University.

Improving access to information:

For improving students’ access to information, implementation of some activities and methodologies are needed. Using tutorial can be the most beneficial learning tool that should be applied in faculties to better help the learners access the information.

Panel discussions can also be an effective way of improving students’ access to information. To do this, hosting successful people from the country should be part of the academic programs faculties. The experts can encourage the learners to do their best in order to be successful and effective members in a society.

Moreover, offering winter internships can help the learners to work alongside their team while they are out of school for the winter. Effective internship gives students the opportunity what their future career really looks like and how to link their knowledge and experiences in the workplace.

Tutoring, panel discussion and offering winter internships will be part of the academic programs for the year’s comings.

Student exchange programs:

Student exchange program closely relates with students’ capacity building. The exchange programs offer broad benefits and outcomes for the learners and cause noticeable changes in academic environments and settings. Such programs not only benefit the educational factors, but also help students’ personal life. Thus, the board of leadership guidance at Kabul University will provide such opportunities for the learners to help students understand different cultures, languages and to make them aware of alternatives and multi-faceted approaches of learning. This will also be a great contribution to solve the current problems analytically and enhance students’ interest in global issues as well as a broader general knowledge. Furthermore, the learners’ self-confidence and self-esteem will be developed by providing such programs.

Student exchange programs will be increased in 1398-1402 (2019-2024).

Service-learning programs:

Service-learning programs have positive influences on students’ capacity building including improvements in academic learning, personal and interpersonal developments and community engagements.

The goal behind including this in the strategic plan of the Quality Assurance Head office is to contribute students’ academic learning, personal and social development through different programs.

Service-learning programs will be applied in 1399 (2020) in all faculties at Kabul University.
