Department of Botany
About:
The Department of Botany is one of the core and prime departments of the Faculty of Biology, which was entrenched in 1395. The Department of Botany undertakes its academic activities under the direct supervision of the Faculty of Biology. The main activities of this department include teaching the relevant subjects according to the curriculum of the faculty, conducting scientific research, organizing scientific conferences, guiding students to prepare and defend monographs, participating in various committees at the faculty and university levels, other relevant departments, and the Ministry of Higher Education. The Department of Botany is committed to working to promote the agenda of the faculty and is planning to create opportunities for students to pursue specialized degrees and the graduation of students specializing in botany. The Department of Botany has 10 academic members, which include one doctorate, and three master’s degrees, and the remaining six members are in the process of completing their master’s degree.
Main Objectives of Department of Botany:
Department of Botany has a mission to work in the training of cadres who can teach at universities, higher education institutions, vocational institutes, and high schools and conduct research in the fields of public health, agriculture, forestry, irrigation, drinking water, environment, development of rural and with international organizations such as UNICEF and the World Health Organization.
The Department of Botany needs a suitable place for growing and maintaining the experimental plants to carry out its practical experiments. The department has raised the issue with the head of the faculty and university. The department intends to prepare a suitable plan accordingly for the establishment of a botanical garden and the necessary equipment with the help of professional local and foreign experts and would try to build it through the relevant institutions.
Teaching Objectives of Department of Botany:
- Training of professional and specialized cadres in the field of Botany for public and private institutions with bachelor’s degrees.
- Training of professionals and qualified biology teachers for the governmental and private schools.
- Training of qualified Botanists.
- Training of technical assistants for practical works of laboratory in governmental and private schools.
- Efforts to preserve endangered plants in Afghanistan.
- Awareness of the importance of plants in daily life and ecosystem.
- Promoting a culture of environmental protection and animal protection.
- Being involved in the professional and specialized development of society and achieving the objectives of the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
- Training of committed and professional workforce.
Vision of Department of Botany:
To enhance the academic knowledge of professional cadres, the Department of Botany intends to offer a specialized degree in botany, train professionals and specialized staff in this field, and offer botanists and cadres to society.
Mission of Department of Botany:
Department of Botany, as one of the active departments of the Faculty of Biology, is striving to train specialized and qualified cadres at the bachelor’s level for the country.
