About

The Faculty of Computer Science was established in 1388 (2009) as an independent faculty within the framework of Kabul University, in accordance with the former strategic plan of the Ministry of Higher Education. The establishment of this faculty aimed at training professional cadres in the field of Computer Science in line with the requirements of the modern era, strengthening computer science education, and providing a solid foundation for postgraduate studies beyond the bachelor’s level. The faculty was formed through the elevation of the Department of Computer Science of the Faculty of Science, which had been established in 1376 (1997).

The Faculty of Computer Science comprises three graduate departments and one non-graduate department, namely the Department of Computer Science, which plays a key role in delivering first- and second-semester courses as well as university-wide foundation subjects. The duration of study in this faculty is eight semesters. During the first year (the first two semesters), students study general and foundational courses, while in the final three years (six semesters), specialized and professional courses are offered in three disciplines: Software Engineering, Information Technology, and Information Systems.

Instruction in this faculty is conducted in national languages and English, and all theoretical and practical courses are delivered using modern technologies. The curriculum of the faculty has been developed in a standardized and systematic manner, in accordance with international standards, through three cluster review cycles by faculty members of higher education institutions in direct collaboration with the Curriculum Directorate of the Ministry of Higher Education. Each fourth-year student is required to prepare a monograph and complete a final project. In addition, the textbooks used in this faculty are standardized and aligned with contemporary academic requirements.

The new building of the Faculty of Computer Science was constructed with the assistance of the Government of Japan. This three-storey building was inaugurated and became operational in 1394 (2015). The facility includes classrooms, laboratories, a library, a conference room, administrative offices, and offices for academic staff.
