Information on the Coronavirus

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus -2 (SARS-CoV-2), a novel coronavirus, was first detected in the Wuhan City of China in December 2019. Since then, it has spread to become a worldwide pandemic after 5 months. SARS-CoV-2 is a, single-stranded, positive-sense, enveloped, RNA virus.

The Virus has an easy person-to-person transmission, even in the asymptomatic phase of the disease. Furthermore, community transmission of the virus has been proven across all affected continents. According to the situation reported by the World Health Organization as of May 22 2021, 166,492,198 cases and 3,458,041 deaths have been confirmed.  

Measures taken by Kabul University to prevent the spread infection among staff and students of Kabul University:

Kabul University provided opportunities to study and work safely. Therefore, preventive precautions have been planned as follows:

  1. The classes are organized in small size like 15 students in each class (some departments like language classes)
  2.  The buildings, libraries, laboratories and classes are disinfected every day.
  3. The use of Mask is compulsory is by the staff and Students.
  4. Distance learning opportunities such as online courses and recorded teaching videos are provided by lecturers to reduce close contacts.
  5. In agreement with the Ministry of Public Health, Kabul University invited the vaccination team and the Professors, staff and students were vaccinated.
  6. All the meetings and advanced training courses or academic conferences are organized in open environment in the University campus.

Simple steps to protect yourself and others from COVID-19:

  1. Wash your hands frequently, regularly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.
  2.  Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, because contaminated hands transfer the virus to your eyes
  3. Use Mask to protect yourself and others from droplets spread from the mouth and nose during cough and Sneezing.
  4.  Avoid going to crowded places and close contact with anyone that has fever or cough
  5. Stay at home if you feel you have the symptom of the COVID 19
  6. If someone in your household is infected, people in the household should take precautions including wearing masks to avoid spread to others
  7. Get information from trusted sources about the latest information about COVID 19, the World Health Organization (WHO) website, or your local health professional.
  8. Get vaccine if possible.
