Department of Plant Protection
This department was embedded in the Department of Plant Science that was established in 1966; however, it was established as an independent and specialized department in 1981 to train young generations up to BSc level in the field of plant protection to decrease crop losses due to pests and diseases and increase the level of agriculture production. Core subjects of the departments include Introductory Plant Pathology, Introductory Entomology, Plant Mycology, Plant Bacteriology, Plant Virology, Plant Nematology, Harmful Insects and Mites of Field Crops, Harmful
Insects and Mites of Trees, Diseases of Field Crops, Diseases of Vegetables, Pests of Vegetables, Fundamentals of Pesticide, Diseases of Trees, Postharvest Diseases, Quarantine of Plant Pests and Diseases, Storage Pests, Beneficial Insects and Mites, Acarology and Research Projects.
The department is intended to be a recognized educational organization both at the national and international level through teaching, experimental research, learning services, academic research, and consultation for development in protecting plants from agricultural pests and diseases.
The department trains qualified technical individuals in the field of plant protection through teaching, research, and the provision of services. Through improved academic methods and modern technologies for increasing the quality and quantity of agricultural production, the department play major role in the development of the society.

The department has its independent laboratory that is partly equipped with preliminary equipment which has been utilized for students' research projects.
