About
The Faculty of Physics stands as the sole institution in Afghanistan dedicated to the pursuit of scientific knowledge in the field of physics. Established with the goal of advancing physics knowledge, fostering expertise, and encouraging research and creativity in Afghanistan, The faculty is actively coordinating its dedicated experts, staff, and physical resources to better serve society.
The current Faculty of Physics was established in 1942 as a department of Physics under the Faculty of Science at Kabul University. The idea of establishing a faculty of natural sciences arose due to a shortage of teachers caused by the increasing number of students in middle and high schools. Simultaneously, there was a growing need for specialists in various institutions and ministries of Afghanistan. Consequently, this department was established as the third faculty of Kabul University under the name of the Faculty of Science, later renamed the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
Initially, students studied in the departments of mathematics and physics, as well as chemistry and biology.
In the academic year of 1969, changes in the academic structure of the faculties led to reforms in the curriculum, making it more specialized. This resulted in the establishment of various departments, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology.
In response to the present needs and the demand for specialized physics training, the Faculty of Physics was established under the proposal of the former Faculty of Science within the framework of Kabul University. With the approval of the Deputy of Academic Affairs of the Ministry of Higher Education and the Leadership Council of the Ministry of Higher Education, it expanded to the faculty level in July 2016. The faculty commenced its operation as a separate entity. Graduates of the Faculty of Physics have excelled as teachers in the Ministry of Education's high schools, teacher training centers, institutes, and higher education institutions and universities. Additionally, graduates of this faculty serve as experts in the field of physics, contributing significantly to various institutions across the country.
