About Geology Department:

Department of Geology was established in 1334 for the purpose of education and training of geologists with the help of national and German experts as the first major geology department in Afghanistan, which has always had the scientific and technical cooperation of Geology Institute in Germany. Then, according to the needs of the time and also in line with the development of Kabul University, especially the creation of a standard for various scientific and specialized fields in 1359, the Faculty of Geoscience was created and the Department of Geology continued its work within the framework of this institution. The purpose of establishing the Department of Geology is to train young staff in order to evaluate, search and extract all the natural mineral resources of the country using today's modern methods and

The purpose of establishing the Department of Geology is to know the general rules of geological constructions that have taken place throughout the history of the geology of the earth, i.e. from the beginning of the earth to the present day, in which sufficient information is provided to the students in the light of which the graduates of the field of geology can study in the departments Various such as:

Mine affairs (mineralogy, petrology, tectonics, structural geology, geochemistry, paleontology, historical geology, hydrogeology, economic geology, metal deposits, non-metallic deposits and exploration of mineral deposits),

Engineering Geology,

Soil science,

Trained in geologic mapping, photo geology, remote sensing, etc. theoretically and practically, and able to carry out related geology matters.

The Department of Geology, through continuous review and expansion of its educational, research and promotional programs, strives to provide the highest levels of education and to train and present talented, competent, and professional geologists to the society.

The Department of Geology spends its efforts to hire experts in the field of geology and mineral resources and obtain new data and figures through mutual understanding in order to play its role in training young staff.

2. Mission:

Department of Geology tries to develop enthusiasm, initiative and necessary skills in every student. By focusing on learning basic concepts and techniques through research, in this academic environment, it promotes professional development in social, cultural and human issues and deep moral values. In this way, it will contribute to the enrichment of science through the creation and dissemination of new knowledge as well as through scientific research.

The specific goals of the Department of Geology are:

 Preparing students to get professional positions in the government, private institutions and in the industry

 Increasing awareness of earth and environmental sciences in the field of education and other fields of science.

 Greater awareness of earth sciences at the public level through educational programs
