Financial and Banking Department

a. Introduction

The commercial, Banking, and Finance Departments were established in 1975 and was active until the end of 1980. Later on, in 1981 all the above three departments were given only one single name “Commercial, Financial and Credit Department” subsequently in 1990, the same department graduated students in two professions i.e., Business and Management and Finance and Credit. By the passage of time, this department has been given different names. For example, in 1988, it was named as Financial and Credit Department then in 1990 it was given another name Financial Department finally, at the end of the year 2008 it was named as Financial and Banking Department.

Vision

Banking and Finance Department is committed to providing quality education, academic research, and capable undergraduate and postgraduate students to strengthen the financial and banking systems of the country.

Mission

Banking and Finance Department as the largest educational center in the field of Banking and Finance is committed to:

  • Providing quality education and research services based on the standards of the region in the field Banking and Finance.
  • Delivering the required contemporary skills and knowledge of the market in the field of Banking and Finance.
  • Compiling quality and standard curriculum.
  • Active participation of the lecturers and students to enrich the public-benefit activities through research services, consultations, learning programs and other voluntary activities.

Main objectives of the Department

  1. Educating professional cadres with the required and contemporary skills of the market in the field of Banking and Finance.
  2. Enabling students to conduct academic research in the field of Banking and Finance.
  3. Creating and developing Banking and Finance theories and knowledge in the country.
  4. Establishing academic and research relations with internal and external organizations to develop knowledge and to exchange experiences in the field of Banking and Finance.

c. Memorandum of understanding 

The Department of Finance and Banking Affairs in various fields has signed cooperation agreements with government institutions and departments, which are as follows:

 1. Existence of a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Finance regarding the provision of facilities for research and scientific work of professors and students.

2. Existence of a memorandum of cooperation between the Faculty of Economics of Kabul University and the General Directorate of Insurance.

3. In order to increase the capacity of the employees of Da Afghanistan Bank, the existence of a memorandum of understanding between the Faculty of Economics of Kabul University and Da Afghanistan Bank in the part of the master program.

4. In order to increase the capacity of the employees of Bank Melli Afghan, the existence of a memorandum of understanding between the Faculty of Economics of Kabul University and Bank Melli Afghan in the master program.

5. In order to increase the capacity of the employees of the Ministry of Education, the existence of a memorandum of understanding between the Faculty of Economics of Kabul University and the Ministry of Education in the master program section.

d. Laboratory and learning facilities

Economy Department consists of one computer lab which can be used by all other departments equally.
