Vision

The vision of Pharmacology Department is to be a recognized and distinguished unit nationally and regionally in the field of pharmacology, pharmacotherapy, toxicology, and pharmacological research by providing excellent teaching and training for the pharmacy students and applying innovative research in different related fields.

Mission

A: Education

  • To teach pharmacology, pharmacotherapy and toxicology with high standards
  • To teach on the basis of standard and efficient teaching methods
  • To develop students’ pharmacological, pharmacotherapeutic and toxicological knowledge, so they will be able to provide efficient services in different related fields.

B: Research

  • To conduct innovative pharmacological and toxicological researches
  • To participate in development of health care system on the basis of scientific researches

C: Public services

  • To promote rational medicine use.
  • To improve the effectiveness of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments with the active involvement in these processes
  • To promote public awareness about different types of toxicities and ways of preventing them
  • Effective participation in relevant committees to contribute to the development of health care system

Department of pharmacology teaches the following subjects

  • Pharmacology (theory and practical)
  • Toxicology (theory and practical)
  • Pharmacotherapy (theory and practical)
  • Pharmacoepidemiology (theory)
  • Rational use of medicines (theory and practical)

Objectives

  • To develop students’ scientific and practicing knowledge by providing excellent teaching and training
  • To be involved in effective therapeutic procedures.
  • To promote rational medicine use
  • To participate in pharmaceutical care (in design, implementation, and monitoring of pharmacotherapeutic plans).
  • To conduct and to promote innovative research in pharmacology and toxicology to establish the efficacy, safety, and effectiveness of medications for humans.
  • To educate students about chemical and physical characteristics, mechanism of action, methods of extraction, quantification, and detection of toxic materials.
  • To educate students about different ways of prevention and treatment of toxicity.
