Department of Information Technology

A. Introduction to the Department of Information Technology

Technological advancements over the past twenty-five years have significantly increased the demand for computer professionals, highlighting the need for a dedicated academic program in Information Technology. Rapid developments in computer networks, wireless communication, graphical user interfaces, the internet, web technologies, and application software have further intensified this demand.

While traditional programs such as Computer Science and Computer Engineering address some of these developments, they often lack sufficient practical focus in areas such as system administration, network management, web development, and applied IT solutions. Consequently, employers have expressed concerns that graduates of these programs may not fully meet immediate organizational needs. This gap necessitated the establishment of specialized IT programs.

Given the heavy dependence of economic organizations and institutions on IT infrastructure and information security, the Department of Information Technology was established in 1388 as a core department within the Faculty of Computer Science. Its mission is to provide high-quality, standardized higher education to students, enabling them to design, implement, and manage effective technological solutions aligned with organizational and market needs.

The department also strives to strengthen academic collaboration with international universities and global companies to enhance curriculum quality and relevance. The curriculum is designed to address both current and future needs of Afghanistan.
