Department of Biotechnology and Seed Production;
The Department of Biotechnology and Seed Production was established in 1393 and started operating within the framework of the Faculty of Agriculture. The Department of Biotechnology and Seed Production is the only department that is being taught by Kabul University in Afghanistan. The credibility and integrity of the department are based on the quality of its teaching, scientific research, and careers related to the existing and emerging fields of biotechnology and seed production.
The Department of Biotechnology and Seed Production is determined to become a source of good services in the field of agriculture development in Afghanistan with credibility and integrity based on good quality in teaching, scientific research, and jobs related to existing fields of biotechnology.
The Biotechnology Department is committed to the highest standards of quality in the education and training of specialized personnel, scientific research, and jobs in the existing and emerging fields of biotechnology and seed production in order to enhance crop productivity and eventually achieve self-sufficiency in food production.
-
Training of specialized cadres in the field of improved seed production and developing new high-yielding varieties resistant to diseases, pests, and drought in order to replace the low-yielding local varieties.
-
Training of specialized personnel in conservation and reasonable utilization of genetic resources and preventing the extinction of local varieties of agricultural crops in the country.
-
Training of professional staff having the capacity of replacing chemical pesticides with bio-pesticides derived from plants and animals.
-
Training of technical cadres in genetic engineering and designing plants resistant to pests, herbicides, drought, salinity, heat, and cold.
-
Training of specialized personnel to improve the nutritional values of vegetables and fruits for the purpose of extending their storage span and shelf life.
Currently, the Department of Biotechnology and Seed Production has no affiliations with other national and international institutions.
The department has an independent laboratory equipped with basic instruments. The mentioned tools are used to conduct the scientific research of undergraduate students.
