  1. Introduction to the Department of Audiovisual Arts (Cinema) 

The Department of Audiovisual Arts is one of the artistic and specialized fields within the framework of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Kabul University. Its primary objective is to provide academic and practical education in the areas of film, image, sound, and audiovisual media. This field serves as a foundation for training artists who, through the language of image and sound, can effectively reflect the cultural, traditional, and Islamic values of society and contribute to the enhancement of social, educational, and cultural awareness.

 

  1. Bachelor's Program in Audiovisual Arts – Introduction 

The Bachelor's program in Audiovisual Arts is a four-year academic course in which students are introduced to both theoretical and practical foundations of filmmaking, cinematography, editing, documentary production, sound design, directing, and the analysis of audiovisual works. The structure of this program is designed based on academic standards and national needs. Alongside technical training, it emphasizes the development of analytical vision, artistic abilities, and cultural understanding in students.

The Audiovisual Arts program, originally established under the title “Cinema,” was launched as an independent department within the Faculty of Fine Arts at Kabul University in 1387 (2008). As the first academic and educational reference in this field in the country, this department has played a significant role in the production of short films, the training of professional personnel, and the introduction of skilled graduates to visual media institutions. Furthermore, the curriculum has been developed in alignment with the cultural and Islamic values of Afghan society.

Graduates of the Audiovisual Arts program have a wide range of career opportunities both nationally and internationally. At the national level, they can work in media organizations, TV channels, radio stations, film production studios, the Ministry of Information and Culture, educational institutions, cultural centers, and various audiovisual projects. 

Internationally, graduates can pursue careers with global media outlets, film production companies, digital platforms, content creation agencies, international festivals, and cultural institutions. Moreover, the program equips students with the skills to work independently as freelance filmmakers or documentarians

- To teach basic and specialized concepts in the fields of filmmaking and audiovisual media 

- To strengthen artistic abilities and cultural understanding in accordance with Islamic and social values 

- To develop practical skills in the production of visual and audio works 

- To build the necessary capacity for critique, analysis, and research in the field of audiovisual arts 

- To prepare students for professional activities in media, cinema, and educational and cultural institutions

- To develop and update the curriculum based on scientific standards and cultural and Islamic values 

- To expand national and international collaborations with reputable educational and artistic institutions 

- To enhance the department's educational infrastructure to provide suitable conditions for practical training and production of works 

- To strengthen the culture of research and scientific documentation in the field of audiovisual arts 

- To train professional personnel who are committed to Islamic values and effective in the cultural advancement of society

The Department of Visual and Audio Arts aims to serve as a scientific and specialized reference in the education of visual arts, while preserving cultural and Islamic values, and to play an effective role at both national and regional levels.

The Department of Visual and Audio Arts is committed to providing quality and practical education in visual and audio productions, in order to train professional, responsible artists who are aware of the needs of society and can effectively contribute to the development of the country’s media arts.

Result of Periodic Review 

The periodic review report of the Cinema academic program for the year 1403 was examined. In this report, all principles and criteria of the periodic review have been properly observed, and its content, including the educational objectives and expected outcomes, has been approved by the respected committee. 

Based on official letter No. (411) dated 23/10/1403 from the Quality Enhancement Directorate of Kabul University, the continuation of the activities of the Department (Cinema academic program) is recommended.
