About
The Faculty of Geoscience at Kabul University was established in 1359 (approx. 1980-1981) as one of the first and most important specialized centers for Earth Sciences in the country. Since its inception, it has played a prominent role in training professional cadres in the fields of Geography, Geology, and Hydrometeorology.
Benefiting from experienced professors, standard laboratories, research programs, and national and international collaborations, the faculty provides a suitable environment for education, research, and enhancing the academic capacity of its students.
The three active departments of this faculty—Geography, Geology, and Hydrometeorology—by offering standard academic programs aligned with the country's needs, play a significant and constructive role in natural resource management, analysis of natural disasters, and infrastructure development.
In recent years, the Faculty of Geoscience has taken effective steps toward enhancing educational quality, strengthening scientific research, and improving academic services. This has been achieved through the establishment and equipment of advanced laboratories, including the GIS Laboratory, Hydrology Laboratory, Soil Mechanics Laboratory, Petrology Laboratory, and Water Management Laboratory. Furthermore, collaborations with esteemed international institutions such as ICIMOD (International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development) and USAID (United States Agency for International Development) have been instrumental in this progress.
