About
The Faculty of Physics is the only independent academic institution in Afghanistan dedicated specifically to higher education in physics. It was established to provide education, specialization, and the development of physics in both fundamental and applied fields. With qualified instructors, well-equipped laboratories, a supportive academic environment, and a standard curriculum, the faculty offers high-quality education designed to meet the scientific and technical needs of the country.
The first foundation of the physics section was laid in 1942 (1321 Shamsi), when the Physics Department began its work within the Faculty of Science at Kabul University. Growing numbers of school graduates, the shortage of teachers, and the increasing national need for scientific professionals led to the creation of an independent Faculty of Science, in which the physics section held an important place.
In 1969 (1348 Shamsi), with academic restructuring, specialized curricula were introduced, and independent departments of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology were created. The development of the Physics Section continued over time, and in 2014 (1393 Shamsi), it was officially upgraded to the level of a faculty by the Ministry of Higher Education. The Faculty of Physics then began operating formally as an independent faculty in 2016 (1395 Shamsi).
Today, graduates of this faculty serve successfully across Afghanistan: in educational and research institutions, in teaching positions at schools and teacher-training colleges, in universities, and in technical and scientific organizations concerned with physics.
