Improving the quality of teaching and learning is a vital part of the quality assurance in higher education; thus, one of the main aims of the Quality Assurance Head Office at Kabul University is enhancing academic quality of studies and teaching. Enhancing quality of teaching include several aspects such as improving the quality of research, teaching provision which means paying more attention to the pedagogic competencies and skills of the instructors and professional development strategies for developing teachers’ profession.

To gain the success and achieve the goal, it is needed to switch traditional lecture based ways of instruction to student-centered concept of encouraging active learning with more diverse methods. This requires setting achievable and challenging goals, applying authentic assessment strategies to monitor students’ learning and providing feedback.

Teachers need a variety of professional development skills along with knowledge of their subject matter and experience in order to be an effective teacher. Professional development strategies include teaching portfolio, peer teaching, co-teaching, recording and so on.
