Archaeology and Anthropology Department

Archaeology department was founded in year 1360. Due to war and critical situations especially after year 1360 a number of teachers were forced to migrate and despite the lack of research and teaching materials some of them bearing a lot of problems continued to teach the younger generation students.

After the establishment of the Archaeology department, it has offered hundreds of male and female students in to governmental and non-governmental afghan organizations.

After year 1381 up to now the Archaeology Department has achieved great progress in the cultural, academic and research areas and prepared well areas of field research for students.

The curriculum of this department has been revised twice. First in year 1385 and second in year 1389 with the cooperation of department’s academic staff, afghan academy of sciences and Doctor Tarzi lecturer at Starzburg university of France. This resulted in addition of some content and omission of other and also decisions regarding to the text content of some subjects were also taken.

Contents of all subjects are completed, edited and later confirmed by the academic staff of the department. Later Kabul University press and other private press centers published the books and made them available to student for reading.

Afghanistan is a country with a long history of cultural, spiritual and has material resources from during the years of its precious legacy left to the world's attention.

Faculty of Social Sciences or any of its departments, particularly the Department of Archaeology can be also named as the Afghanistan Studies department because of its relationship with cultural heritage of Afghan society and its people.
