The faculty of Journalism in Kabul University was established as a department of the faculty of languages and literature in the year 1981. It remained as a department until the year 1980. In 1980, after it was separated from the faculty of languages and literature it then was transformed into a department of the faculty of social sciences. Since established as a faculty, it had 40 rounds of graduates and all the students who graduated from this faculty were professional journalists. Currently in 2012 this faculty has two departments: department of press, and department of radio and television. It is worth mentioning that students study the first and second years as general and they are then divided into two specific fields which are printed press, and radio and television. Graduated students can then work in different fields such as printed press, radio and television.
