Aims of the Faculty

There is no specific official document to include aims of the faculty of Journalism since established in 1964 as a department and transformed into a faculty in 1986. However, activities of this faculty for higher education in Bachelor level are specific to it and are based on acceptable rules. In general, the aims of this faculty can be categorized as following:

  1. Students are educated to be journalists, reporter, and interviewer in printed media, radio and television, and Internet.
  2. Graduated students from the faculty of journalism can work as reporter for magazines and newspapers.
  3. Graduated students from the faculty of journalism can work as reporter and journalist in sound and video media as well as cyber journalism (Internet).
  4. Graduated students of the faculty of journalism can prepare analytical genres (articles, notes, and analytical writing) for media.
  5. Graduated students of the faculty of journalism, once experienced can work as managing director of various programs in the media.
  6. Graduates of journalism faculty once have the required experience in their field; can work in editing (correcting and editing), printed messages, and audio and video using information technology.
  7. Graduates of journalism faculty based on their personal interests can work as photojournalism (for news) in printed media.
  8. Graduates of faculty of journalism, especially field of radio and television, can work as video journalist using video cameras in TV and even cinematography.
  9. Graduates of journalism faculty can successfully participate in analyzing public opinions and report in various areas and present their reports via media.
  10. Graduates of journalism faculty can prepare and analyze reports on environment to inform people about the environment.
  11. Graduates of journalism faculty as directors of educational programs in public and private radio and television networks.
  12. Graduates of journalism can serve as spokespersons in governmental and private organizations (NGO) and successfully carry out their duties.
  13. Graduates of journalism faculty can work in the office of public relations in both governmental and non-governmental organization (NGOs).
  14. Graduates and students of the faculty of journalism can work in production of radio and television programs and they can make good use of advanced technology to increase the quality of those programs.
  15. Talented graduates of the journalism faculty are teaching in the public and private educational institutions (NGO). Their classes include both practical and theoretical topics.
  16.  In addition to their official l job, they can have part time jobs in printed media, national and international audio and video media. For example, in CNN, BBC radio and TV, Voice of America, VOA, Dutch Willie of Germany, Reuters news agency, France-Press, , Aytrtas, and prestigious publications such as the New York Times, Washington Post and others.
  17.  Graduates of journalism faculty can work to produce entertainment, educational and fun programs in accordance with social ethics and media law.
  18. Graduates of journalism faculty can write journalistic articles in accordance with their social responsibility and freedom of speech.
  19.  Graduates of journalism faculty can work to establish a news agency.
  20.  Graduates of journalism faculty can undertake research using one of their main subjects which is research methodologies.
  21.  It is important to mention that the faculty of  journalism currently does not have any master’s program or special journalism programs so that the students can work as reporters and journalists in specific fields such as agricultural, health, economic, etc.
  22. The graduation of journalism faculty can be the Ministries spokesman
  23. The graduation of journalism faculty can be responsible of public Relations as well.

The above description can be ideal to divide the aims and goals of the faculty of journalism in23 parts based on which a proper and complete program can be developed in the future. Based on these aims, teachers, administrative staff, workers and students of the faculty of journalism can develop and organize their studies.

Educational goals mentioned in the above are recognized by professors and students and is in accordance with the professional subjects taught in the faculty of journalism. Also it is in full compliance and helps develop the ideology of institution or faculty to improve the faculty into a high extent. Considering the above objectives, graduates of this faculty and its two departments can clearly be explained as following:

Journalism Faculty Administration and Responsibilities:

Journalism faculty based on KU and MoHE’s rules and regulations has a Dean, an Assistant, 2 Department heads, an administration and Educational Committee. The administration of this faculty tries to facilitate activities in order to achieve the objectives. The achievement is accomplished through teacher’s teaching and research, which is a good relationship between administration, teachers and students. The administration section tries to keep balance between males and females, the Dean of faculty involved in each stage. The Dean of this faculty Professor M. Wahid Gharwal one of the graduated students of Journalism Faculty and has his BA.

-Radio and TV Head of Department Professor M. Wahid Gharwal besides being the Dean of faculty he is the head of Radio and TV department.

-Faculty Deputy dean  Professor Jawida Ahmadi is one of the active lecturer and has her MA in Dari Literature, besides teaching and Faculty Assistant, she has the responsibility to organize abroad communicative programs and she is faculty magazine assistant too and she has 10 written and printed  books in journalism  and more than 10 scientific printed  articles

 - Professor Abdul Rasul Sayeed Head of Press Department has his MA in Journalism (Press) and like other teachers of this faculty involved in teaching.

-Administration  Director M. Dawoud Haidari has graduated from languages and Literature Faculty in Kabul University. He has seven years’ experience in different faculties, including journalism faculty.

This council is lead by Professor M. Wahid Gharwal in a autonomously. There is good relationship between all sections and administration to achieve the main goals which are according MoHE’s rules and regulations.  Administration and head of this faculty admire and facilitate the teaching methods, researches, and effective services of this faculty. The teaching and learning balanced to male and female professors and students are considerate. Members of administration section beside their activities in the faculty, they are busy to work in National Radio and TV, Educational Institutes, private courses. The Professors of this faculty are the advisers for academic promotions of journalism professors  in Khost, Al Beroni, Balkh, Badakhshan, Heart, Laghman, Baghlan, and Kandahar Universities. These professors work voluntarily and they have regular cooperation with journalism faculties of other universities in Afghanistan.

Educational Programs and Teaching Curriculum:

Educational Programs and Teaching Curriculum of Journalism Faculty has professional subjects that each subject has its own rules; these subjects are updated time to time.

Professors and Teachers of this faculty do researches to increase teaching materials based on students need and interest.

Professional subjects 80% included in curriculum, rules and goals of faculty. The educational programs are based on bachelor level. The content of the lesson are according academic and professional concerns. The curriculum of this faculty is based on semester system; the credit system didn’t apply yet.  During 10 years the curriculum updated three times.

Journalism Faculty recently accepted a partnership program with Omaha University in Nebraska of USA and there is hope to work on curriculum.
