International Conference on Human Rights and Contribution of "Champion of Freedom" Statue to the Chancellor of Kabul University

Professor Hamidullah Farooqi Chancellor of Kabul University and Senior Minister Adviser of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Higher Education Affairs;  on Thursday, 5th of December, 2019, was participated at the ″International Conference on Human Rights″ which was organized by the Afghanistan Institute for Economic and Legal Studies (AELSO) in celebration of Human Rights World Day in Kabul and he has talked about "The Role of Academic Institutions in the Realization of Human Rights Values" and he has been awarded by the "Hero of Freedom" award by the institute's officials and 11 other active human rights, scientific, media, social, artistic and political figures for his remarkable activities in various sectors of value of human rights and freedoms.

Mr. Farooqi during his speech at this international conference; firstly thanked the organizers of this program and spoke about the human rights practitioners on the principles and values ​​of human rights, gender equality among different societies, and the historical process of the importance of human rights. On the other hand; Mr. Farooqi talked about the effective role of knowledge and Higher Education and academic centers, which is a tool for eliminating human rights abuses and creating a realistic idea of ​​human rights and making people aware of its importance in their daily lives. He mentioned that to realize the value of human rights, promoting and upholding this right as an effective and fundamental human right of the first generation, and consideration of it difficult to understand the philosophical principles of fundamental and civil rights.

Mr. Farooqi further said: in fact the "advocacy and support of gender equality are among the academic institutions' are obligatory, the development and implementation of these values ​​will contribute to the advancement and prosperity of the public; which fortunately in Kabul University 40%  female students and lecturers have achieved this equality. Then he talked on Kabul University's joint future plans with the United Nations Development Program / UNDP in human rights and its efforts to gender studies and gender equality; that was interesting to the participants of the program.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted in 1948 by the UN General Assembly; that is annually celebrated on 10th September as a "World Human Rights Day" around the world. The Institute for Economic and Legal Studies of Afghanistan (AELSO), which hosted the first round of this international conference in Afghanistan, was established by a group of national and international scholars and collaborated by accredited academic institutions of the world and Afghanistan and has been in the field of law promotion and have activities; trainings ever since on Human rights, individual freedoms, free market economics, the rule of law, good governance, and other values ​​of open society.
