Chancellor of Kabul University has met with Vice President of the US Embassy in Kabul

Professor Hamidullah Farooqi Chancellor of Kabul University and Senior Minister Adviser of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Higher Education Affairs;  met with Karren Deeker, Vice President of the US Embassy in Kabul, to discuss the issue of academic; scientific and cultural cooperation.

The meeting, which took place at the Kabul University Presidency on Tuesday, 26th of Nov, 2019, first; Ms. Karen Deeker, the Vice President of the US Embassy in Kabul, expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to meet with the President and officials of the University of Kabul for background in scientific and cultural cooperation between two countries and the provision of education opportunities for Afghans in the United States, including the Fulbright Scholarships, she called it a good opportunity to build the capacity of Afghan scientists and students. Ms. Deeker emphasized strengthening the country's academic institutions and providing facilities for scientific cooperation with Afghanistan, noting that its responsibilities in managing scientific programs at the US Embassy and in the effective role of science and knowledge in improving people-to-people relations between the two countries. It will work to strengthen scientific collaborations and will strive to provide more scientific and academic backgrounds. She also pledged to welcome the Embassy in Kabul with the launch of the Kabul University and US Embassy partnerships on the Youth Role, especially Students in Peace, Dialogue program, which is set to begin on December 1 this year. The United States is keen to further develop these full-fledged peace talks and partnerships in Afghanistan, that the Kabul University plays a central role.

Then Professor Hamidullah Farooqi Chancellor of Kabul University and Senior Minister Adviser of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Higher Education Affairs;  welcomed their presence at Kabul University and expressed satisfaction with the visit, highlighting the US's scientific, cultural and scientific activities, programs and academic and scientific achievements of United States in the peace process of Afghanistan. Mr. Farooqi said the role and impact of students, education and science on public awareness and speeding up the process of sustainable peace in Afghanistan is undeniable. He also called on the Vice President of the US Embassy to expand the educational opportunities for Afghan teachers and students in the universities of USA.

During the dialogue, the two sides called for renewal and continuation of past scientific and cultural partnerships, the development and expansion of scientific and cultural relations and cooperation between the two countries, Afghanistan and the United States.

It is noteworthy that the meeting was attended by vice chancellor of KU financial and administrative affairs; vice chancellor of students affairs of Kabul University, the heads of law and political sciences, Islamic law, journalism, the head of the English Department of  Languages and Literature Faculty, the head of the cultural council and other officials of the university. They spoke about their academic interests and their previous academic affiliations with various US universities; they expressed their views and wishes for the resumption, development and continuation of those programs.
